This book is exactly what I have been looking for since starting my course in Adult Nursing. Medication is such an important part of the role of a Nurse and yet it is an area in which we receive little direct teaching. I have so far struggled with this area as I find the reference books lacking in detail and explanation whilst the Pharmacology textbooks can be overly technical and difficult to relate to patients. This has made it difficult to understand the plethora of drugs given to patients whilst on placement and the associate nursing care but this book has helped me bring it all together and make sense of what needs to be done. 

The main aim of the book is to highlight the adverse effects of the 20 most common groups of drugs by explaining how they work, what they are for, how to give them and what to look out for. In addition it provides many extra gems such as the basic anatomy and physiology of the system the drug acts on and guidance on procedures such as injection technique. In addition there is a handy glossary and a detailed reference list for when you want to investigate a specialist area in more detail. 

I can't overstate enough how useful I have found this book and as I am currently on placement I have not put it down since I received it! This book should be a core text for student nurses and would be equally invaluable to newly qualified staff nurses or even for experienced nurses who want to ensure they are giving safe and evidenced based care.
